A New Alliance Against Dynasty In the Making

A new alliance against political dynasties is being formed: ATIN (Ours). ATIN leaders met with media representatives yesterday and announced the formation of the alliance and their intentions to contest the 2016 Presidential Elections.

The press statement issued by ATIN yesterday states: We now launch a people’s alternative, our alternative.  It is OURS.  ATIN – Alliance for Truth, Integrity and Nationalism.  It is the alliance that will end traditional politics.  It is the alliance that will end elitist monopoly of political power.  It is the alliance that will end political dynasties of the ruling elite in this country.

Individuals and parties who initiated ATIN include, Ricardo Penson (Honorary President, Partido Lakas ng Masa-PLM), Lito David (Kapatiran), Christian Seneres (Democratic Party of the Philippines), Sam Alcantara (Social Justice Society), Johnny Chang (Anti-Chacha Coalition), Sonny Melencio (Chairperson, Partido Lakas ng Masa-PLM).

One of the main activities of the coalition is the Peoples Initiative signature campaign: the collection of the signatures of 3% of electoral voters in each of the 237 Districts across the Philippines. The People's Initiative is a provision of the Philippine constitution, that enables the people to enact laws directly, without going through the stalling and crippling machinations of the Philippine Congress. The People's Initiative is being supported by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

The alliance is calling on all those who support the cause, to end the rule of political dynasties and elite monopoly of political power, to join ATIN. ATIN will be formally launched at a people's assembly in May.
